Fall 2023 Girls/Boys Varsity Program

  • Registration & payment deadline: Friday, August 25

  • Pre-season training starts Monday, August 28

  • In-season on-the-water training starts Tuesday, September 5

The BLS Crew Fall Varsity programs are intensive and competition-oriented with practice 5/6 days per week and weekend regattas in September and October. These programs are designed for athletes who have already completed a Spring season in the Novice program. Athletes continue to develop technical skills, achieve peak fitness, and compete in a range of boats including eights, fours and pairs in both lightweight and open weight divisions. In recent years, BLS Varsity squads have competed at the highest levels in state, regional and national events.

To register for the Fall season, complete this form: Fall Rower Registration.

Practice Schedule and Logistics (for both Girls and Boys Varsity Squads)

  • In-season on-the-water training starts Tuesday, September 5, with practices at the BLS Boathouse from 5-7:30 pm (off on Wednesdays) and 8-10:30 am Saturday.

  • Varsity rowers are expected to attend practice five days per week.

  • All Fall practices are at the BLS Boathouse.

Registration and Payment Deadlines

  • The athletes’ parent or guardian should register using the BLS Crew Registration Form. Please do not upload forms until you have completed this step.

  • Please note that the BLS Crew registration forms and process are separate from the regular BLS Athletics registration; rowers must register using the Crew registration form and the BLS Athletics form.

Required Forms

The following forms must be submitted once per academic year. All forms should be scanned and uploaded to the BLS Crew Forms Submission Portal no later than Friday, August 25. Fall rowers will not need to submit forms again in the Spring. No rower will be permitted to attend practice until all required forms have been submitted.

  • Concussion Training Certificate: obtained by completing the NFHS Concussion Training (download the certificate as a pdf)

  • Signed Rower Safety Pledge: All athletes and parents must read the information regarding opiate and substance abuse provided in this file labeled Opiate Substance Information and will be required to acknowledge on the Rower Safety Pledge that they have read this information.

Sports Clearance

  • All rowers must obtain a Sports Clearance from the BLS Nurses’ office every season. To obtain a Sports Clearance, a physician's school/camp form dated after August 1, 2022 must be on file with the BLS Nurses. The BLS Nurse will notify the Crew Registrar directly once the Sports Clearance has been issued.

  • The Nurses will issue Clearances during W-blocks, studies, student leadership periods, physical education class, or after lunch, but NOT before or after school.

Fees and Financial Aid

  • Rower Fees: $500.00 + suggested $150 donation for the Varsity bus from the school to the BLS boathouse.

  • Deadline: Friday, August 25, 2023, for Varsity rowers, unless a financial aid or payment plan arrangement has been made with the Registrar.

  • See Fall Payment web page for information on how to pay by credit card, PayPal, or check.

  • Friends of BLS Crew is committed to ensuring that crew is affordable for all students and families in the BLS community. If you would like to request financial assistance for the crew program, please send an email to registrar@blscrew.org.

  • For Varsity rowers only, BLS Crew hopes to again arrange for a bus from BLS to the boathouse for the 5 pm Fall practice start time. The suggested amount to contribute to the bus cost is $150. We understand that not all families are able to add this cost to their fall budget. We also greatly appreciate that some families have offered to make a donation above and beyond the $150 to make the bus financially possible.
