A YEAR OF BLS Crew

Fall
Fall is a short yet exciting season, with races, scrimmages, and regattas taking place primarily in October. The Head of the Charles provides a great opportunity for Varsity 1V8+ boats to race and for all rowers and families to get involved. Varsity practice starts during the first week of school (Novice practice usually starts the second week) and ends around the first week of November.
Winter
Indoor training starts in December and continues until the coaches deem it safe to return to the water (sometime between Mid-March and April depending on the weather).
February Break
BLS Crew offers an optional spring-training trip to Tennessee.
April Break
Varsity holds twice-daily practices. Novice holds daily practices.
Spring
Spring is the longest, most involved season, with May being particularly busy. In addition to the races, scrimmages, and regattas that take place during the months of April and May, BLS Crew also hosts the annual Ergathon, our most important fund-raising event, as well as the end-of-the year BLS Crew Banquet at the beginning of June to honor our graduating Seniors and celebrate the accomplishments of all rowers.
Although the BLS Crew Banquet marks the end of the season for most rowers, any boats that have qualified for Nationals will travel to Florida in June.
Summer
BLS Crew runs a summer practice for rowers, which you can sign up for on a weekly basis.
Although the life of a BLS rower is undoubtedly busy, it can also be extremely rewarding and manageable—with the support and encouragement of fellow rowers and families.
