BLS Crew Seasons

BLS Crew runs three seasons each year.

  • Winter/Spring: The Winter/Spring season starts indoors in mid-January and is the biggest rowing season.

    • A Novice program welcomes boys and girls to the sport. The season highlights rowing skills, water safety, and fitness, and it culminates in several regattas in May. No prior athletic or rowing experience is necessary to join the Novice program.

    • The Varsity program is for all rowers who have completed a Spring Novice season (with the exception of some younger rowers who may do a second Novice Spring). The Varsity program continues to develop technique, raises athlete fitness to a higher level, and involves a number of races, regattas and occasionally entries into national events. Most Spring rowing is in 4- and 8-person boats.

  • Fall: Athletes who participated in the prior Spring season, as well as new Novices, can also participate in the Fall season. Athletes continue to develop their skills in 4- and 8-person boats, and they may have additional opportunities to scull in single and double boats. Selected athletes may have an opportunity to compete in the Head of the Charles Regatta, the nation's oldest rowing event.

  • Summer: The BLS Crew summer program offers BLS rowers an affordable opportunity to participate in conditioning and spend time on the water during the summer.

    • Experienced Rowers: Athletes who have completed a Novice season are able to spend time in 4- and 8-person boats, to develop sculling skills, and to stay fit

    • Learn-to-Row: One-week programs that provide an introduction to the sport and allow students to give rowing a try before joining for the Fall season.

Detailed program and registration information can be found on the website as each season approaches.
